This Kagura depicts the story of the first encounter between Benkei , big priest soldier, and Yoshitsune(1159 - 1189), young war hero raised at Kurama-yama, at the bridge of Gojoubashi, the name of bridge across River Kamo in Kyoto, where Benkei had attacked all passersby samurai and got nine hundreds ninety swords.

One day Benkei challenged Yoshitsune at the Gojobashi but was beaten, then he became Yoshitsune’s faithful follower.
